THE PROBLEM: Currently there are very few gay men who have not contracted a sexually transmitted disease, including exposure to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. While it is true that information does not necessarily mean a change in behaviour, we--gay men--have reached the conclusion that more creative strategies must be developed to encourage gay men to use condoms and to practice protected sex with their sexual partners. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Gay Photo-novel has the following objectives: To take advantage of the novel's communicative format to carry the positive homosexual liberation message to the popular sector, through everyday situations. To build a conceptual framework that educates and provides information on HIV infection and disease in conjunction with a change in behavior. IMPACT: This Gay Photo-novel is a novelty: to this date there isn't, nor has there been, a single photo-novel of this kind in Mexico and Latin America. CONCLUSION: We can not stop the spread of HIV among the gay community by denying the existence of this group.
