Frosch M, Stallmann D, Holzmann H, Landthaler M, Braun-Falco O; International Conference on AIDS.

Int Conf AIDS. 1989 Jun 4-9; 5: 282 (abstract no. M.B.P.365).

Dermatological department of Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, FRG

OBJECTIVE: To determine the course of dermatological symptoms during zidovudine treatment. METHODS: Dermatological manifestations of 33 patients treated for 35.5 weeks (4 - 84 weeks) with zidovudine 6 x 200 mg or 4 x 250 mg orally were observed. RESULTS: Regarding Kaposi's sarcoma, 6/12 patients showed a stabilization or partial regression of their lesions. Oral hairy leukoplakia healed in 54.6 % of cases. In oral candidosis 6/10 had no relapse after antimycotic therapy at beginning of zidovudine treatment. Therapy-resistant psoriasis in 3 patients healed partially or completely 10 weeks after beginning of zidovudine treatment. CONCLUSION: Zidovudine treatment reduces relapses and leads to a better response to local therapy of dermatological manifestations.
