OBJECTIVES: To compare skin test results using the ID method with results from the MM method using individual patients (pts) as their own controls. METHODS: Skin tests were applied simultaneously to the volar surfaces of both forearms on 68 HIVI seropositive patients. The ID panel was placed on the right forearm and consisted of tetanus(T) 1:10, candida(C) 1:10, mumps (M) 0.1 ml, trichophyton(Tr) 1:30, and PPD(TB) 5TU. The standard MM panel of T, diphtheria(D), strep(S), tuberculin, control(Ctr), C, Tr, and proteus (P) was placed on the left arm. All results were read at 48 hours. Positive was greater than or equal to 5 mm for ID and greater than or equal to 2 mm for MM. RESULTS: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME CONCLUSIONS: For T4 greater than 200, MM and ID showed similar results with ID more reactive. All pts with T4 less than 200 were on AZT. 6/7 of these pts had increased reactions from previous ID result. AZT may modify DHS for ID greater than MM.
