Higgins S, Woolley PD, Chandiok S; International Conference on AIDS.

Int Conf AIDS. 1993 Jun 6-11; 9: 274 (abstract no. PO-A36-0840).

Department of Genitourinary Medicine, University Hospital of South Manchester, UK.

In a comparative study of topical clotrimazole (500 mg pessary and 1% cream), fluconazole (150 mg) as a single oral dose and itraconazole (200 mg twice daily) orally for one day in the treatment of acute vulvovaginal candidiasis in immunocompetent women the following results were obtained: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. Symptomatic and mycological cure rates were similar for those women treated with clotrimazole and itraconazole whereas fluconazole was clearly less effective. These results suggest that itraconazole should be considered first-line oral therapy for acute vulvovaginal candidiasis.
