Winnig challenges to carry through prevention to STD/AIDS from schools.

Issues: The resistance in developint projects which involve themes related to sexuality, such as, prevention of Sexualy Transmitted diseases/STD and AIDS, is still very intense in scholl environmento. To meny educators and educational institutions directors, to speack out about Sex in classroom is na incentive to precocious begining of sexual life pupil. To reverse this mistake is a great challeng. Description: In 1993, many educator's resistance, we initiated a work of prevention to STD/AIDS in Niteroi Municipal Education network(Secound city in number of AIDS cases in Rio de Janeiro State). Before the social pressure done by teachers who were against our initiative, we stabilish parnership with the Grupo Pela Vidda/Niteroi(A non-profit, no-governmental organization, formed by people living with AIDS, their friends and familiers, wich fightes for human rights of pacientes infected by HIV), help us to initiate a sensibilization process together scholl community. To make possible our work, various acttion were carried through, amongst them the aproval in 1994, from a municipal law that obligs the inclusion of the subject "Prevention of STD/AIDS" in schools municipal agenda. Conclusion: After the adhesion of many teachers to our work, we prepare 406 multipiers educators to act in Municipal Education Network and, among them, we selected 27 teachers to compose a Permanent Network Of STD/AIDS Prevention, covering 23 shools of 16 Niteroi suburbs, with a universe of 6.800 adolescnts pupils. Beside of this actions, the Network also has developed actions of sensitization with pupils relatives, to alert them about their vulnerability to STD and HIV infection.
