The time between the ages of 10 and 13 is an important period of transition, when the child enters puberty. This age group is an important target group for sex education. However, the education needs to be adapted to the children's knowledge and maturity level. LAFA has therefore developed a special "package" for people involved in the sex education of girls and boys aged 10-13. The "package" contains the following: 1. A course which addresses themes that are relevant for the target group. The participants work with questions like "How does physical development affect the self-esteem of a young boy/girl?" and "How does sexuality find expression in the age group?" 2. A file with methods and ideas which are suitable for the target group and may open up discussions about attitudes and values. The file also contains a book which is built on interviews with 10-13-year-old girls and boys and which can be used in their education. 3. Service and support. LAFA offers personal guidance in sex education, with advice on literature and materials. This service is adapted to the needs of the visitors and can be designed specifically for the sex education of boys and girls aged 10-13. In follow-ups of the course (1) participants have expressed the view that it supplies a long-felt demand and contributes to their work with the target group. They have also inquired about methods and materials adapted to the age group, a need which has now been met through the file (2). In the near future LAFA will be starting a network for people who are involved in the sex education of 10-13-year-old girls and boys.
